Learning Arc & Curriculum: Preschool – Kindergarten
Our Early Childhood Program (Preschool–Kindergarten) is rooted in the belief that play is the foundation of all learning. During these formative years, children are developing a sense of self, a love of discovery, and the social skills that will carry them throughout their educational journey. Our program nurtures each child's natural curiosity through hands-on exploration, outdoor learning, creative expression, and rich social interaction.
This is where the learning arc begins—in an environment designed to be joyful, engaging, and developmentally responsive. As students progress into Kindergarten, they take their first steps into academic readiness, community leadership, and greater independence—all while remaining grounded in the magic of play.
Play-Based Learning
Play is the work of young children. Our days are filled with open-ended play that supports imagination, collaboration, problem-solving, and emotional growth. Through block building, pretend play, storytelling, nature exploration, and sensory activities, children make sense of the world around them in developmentally appropriate ways.
Nature & Outdoor Exploration
Daily time outdoors is an essential part of our early childhood program. Whether digging in the garden, climbing logs, or following a trail of ants, children build resilience, physical confidence, and a sense of wonder about the natural world. Outdoor time also serves as a rich context for early science, storytelling, and social learning.
Emergent & Experiential Curriculum
Rather than follow a scripted curriculum, we follow the children—responding to their interests, questions, and ideas with projects, stories, and activities that are deeply meaningful. This emergent curriculum approach allows for organic learning across subjects and encourages young children to see themselves as capable thinkers and creators.
Foundational Literacy & Math
Kindergarteners begin to engage with early literacy and numeracy in ways that are playful, experiential, and grounded in real-life contexts. From recognizing letter sounds to exploring number patterns in nature, learning is joyful and woven into daily routines and projects. Read-alouds, songs, drawing, and storytelling are central to early language development.
Arts, Music & Movement
Creativity flows freely in our classrooms through painting, building, dancing, singing, and dramatic play. Young children express themselves and make meaning through artistic exploration, which also supports motor development and cognitive growth.
Social-Emotional Development
Learning to share, communicate, take turns, and express big feelings is just as important as learning letters and numbers. Our program integrates social-emotional learning throughout the day, helping children develop empathy, emotional awareness, and tools for building strong relationships.
Kindergarten as Leaders
In our multiage early childhood classrooms, Kindergarteners begin to step into leadership roles, setting examples for younger students, helping with routines, and taking on more responsibility. This gentle leadership builds confidence, a sense of purpose, and readiness for the next phase of their learning journey.
A Nurturing, Whole-Child Approach
Our Preschool–Kindergarten program is intentionally designed to honor each child’s unique developmental path. Through play, connection, and exploration, children build the foundation for a lifetime of joyful learning, meaningful relationships, and confident self-expression.
All Pre-K / Kindergarten Students must be over age 3.5 and fully potty trained.
